Shakahola Starvation Cult: 15 More Bodies Exhumed, Death Toll at 318

Fifteen more bodies were exhumed on Wednesday at the Shakahola forest in Kilifi County where the search for victims of Shakahola Starvation Cult is ongoing.

The death toll now stands at 318 after the phase three of the exhumation exercise kicked off last week.

According to the police officers leading the operation, one suspect has been arrested, bringing the total number of arrests so far to 36.

Detectives reported that no rescues were made, leaving the tally of the rescued individuals unchanged at 95.

The count of victims positively identified by their relatives remains at 19, while the number of missing persons stands at 613.

In the meantime, a total number of 93 DNA samples have been collected as part of the investigation.

The cult in question has been connected to Pastor Paul Mackenzie of Good News International Church. He stands accused of indoctrinating his followers to engage in fatal starvation practices with the belief that it would enable them to “meet Jesus.”
